About the event:

Are you studying to become a dietitian or have you recently graduated? The Navigating your career path: Emerging Dietitians Summit will help you take your first steps towards finding a career that you love. Brought to you by Dietitian Connection and Abbott Nutrition and Health Institute, and hosted by Ainsley Malone, you’ll get to hear from the likes of Carla Prado, Stacey Dunn-Emke, Jasmine Westbrooks, Wesley McWhorter and Monica Salinas. In this 2.5 hour live webinar, you’ll explore the full breadth of global opportunities within the dietetics profession. You’ll also hear tips, tricks and advice from established dietitians to help you build long-lasting professional relationships and develop core skills to help you nail the job application process. Prepare to feel inspired!

 

The program, moderated by Ainsley Malone, includes:

  • A panel discussion with Jasmine Westbrooks, Monica Salinas and Wesley McWhorter that delves into the highs and lows of their respective career journeys. Jasmine, Monica and Wesley will share the many challenges they have faced, the opportunities that have been presented to them and their learnings along the way.
  • A presentation by Stacey Dunn-Emke, founder of NutritionJobs, focusing on resume and cover letter essentials. Stacey will also share her job interview secrets.
  • A keynote presentation by Carla Prado exploring her inspiring career story.

Faculty:

Ainsley Malone is a Nutrition Support Dietitian at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio where she is involved in managing nutrition care for patients requiring enteral and parenteral nutrition. In addition, Ms. Malone serves as a Clinical Practice Specialist for the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) where she works to support clinical practice activities for the organization. Ainsley is a certified nutrition support clinician and has given international, national and local presentations on many aspects of nutrition support practice. In addition to her clinical practice activities, Ms. Malone has authored multiple nutrition support related peer reviewed articles and book chapters. Over her career, Ainsley has served in many nutrition leadership capacities including President of ASPEN in 2013 and on the Board of Directors for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics from 2019 through 2022.

 

 

 

Carla Prado, PhD, is a Registered Dietitian and a Professor at the University of Alberta, and a Campus Alberta Innovates (CAIP) Chair in Nutrition, Food and Health. She is the Director of the Human Nutrition Research Unit, a state-of-the-art research and training facility. Carla is an expert in assessing nutritional status through the precise measurement of body composition and energy metabolism. The focus of her current research program is to develop targeted nutrition interventions for the prevention and treatment of low muscle mass in patients with diverse chronic conditions. She is currently the Principal Investigator of several randomized controlled trials investigating the impact of nutrition intervention on body composition and health. Prado’s received her BSc at the Federal University of Goiás (Brazil), and her Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, Canada. She has completed further training at the Cross Cancer Institute (Canada), the National Institutes of Health (USA) and Newcastle University (UK). She is an Associate Editor of Clinical Nutrition and the Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle. Carla is a recipient of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40, an award that celebrates exceptional young Canadian leaders of all sectors, and was recently inducted into the Royal Society of Canada, the highest academic honour in the country.

 

Stacey Dunn-Emke, MS, RDN, is the Founder and Owner of NutritionJobs and ExerciseJobs. She specializes in dietetic career development, resume building, LinkedIn, and job seeking success via traditional and unique platforms for nutrition and dietetic professionals. Stacey has previously worked in various settings around the Bay Area as a Dietitian, Clinical Nutrition Manager, and Research Dietitian with Dr. Dean Ornish. She has been invited to speak at Harvard Medical School, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and MD Anderson Cancer Center, and has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and MSNBC TV. She was awarded Outstanding Dietitian by the Bay Area Dietetic Association, Outstanding Dietitian of the Year by ARAMARK, Healthcare Support Services, and Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year by the California Dietetic Association. Stacey lives in San Francisco with her family where her children take her on skiing, volleyball, ballet and lacrosse adventures!

 

 

Jasmine Westbrooks is currently working as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Nutrition Dietetics from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and her Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition from Rosalind Franklin University. Jasmine is the Co-founder of EatWell Exchange Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the primary goal of bridging the gap in health outcomes by guiding communities in making positive life long changes while respectfully maintaining their culture. Jasmine is has a consulting company, Nourish Through Nutrition, teaching about diabetes, mindful eating and making behavioral changes.

 

 

 

 

Monica Salinas is a Registered Dietitian at the Moses Division of Montefiore Medical Center in New York and has been the Nutrition Support Clinician for the past five years. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Wellness from Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico and a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition from NYU. Monica works closely with the Critical Care team, during the COVID 19 pandemic, she helped develop a Nutrition Therapy protocol that helped dietitians across Montefiore Health System with the nutritional management of patients with COVID 19. Aside from her job as a critical care dietitian at Montefiore Medical Center, she is an adjunct nutrition professor at NYU.

 

 

 

 

Wesley McWhorter, DrPH, MS, RDN, LD, CSCS is an Assistant Professor in Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences and the Director of Culinary Nutrition for the Nourish Program at the Michael and Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health. Dr. McWhorter is appointed as a faculty member at McGovern Medical School, serves as a national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and is an advisory council member for the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative. A professional chef, Dr. McWhorter focuses on interprofessional nutrition education through hands-on culinary medicine courses.
