About the webinar:
GLP-1 nutrition care isn’t new for dietitians. Protein, fiber, nutrient density; you’ve likely heard it all. Dietitians across all practice settings are already seeing, or will soon feel, the surge of patients seeking GLP-1 guidance.
But are you prepared for the conversations your patients may not know they need guidance on? The dual reality is this: while GLP-1s can support metabolic health, they also complicate relationships with food. Time-strapped prescribing physicians are also turning to dietitians to lead nuanced conversations around weight loss and eating behavior.
This symposium will equip you with the tools to confidently counsel without reinforcing harm, collaborate with the broader care team, and advocate for patients throughout their GLP-1 journey. After the session attendees will be able to:
- Understand how to effectively screen for disordered eating, flag restrictive patterns and behaviors, and counsel without reinforcing harm in patients using GLP-1 medications
- Develop strategies for interdisciplinary care coordination between dietitians, mental health professionals, and physicians/advanced practice providers.
- Apply culturally responsive communication strategies to support patient autonomy while navigating weight stigma and bias, and complex relationships with food.
- Identify and apply appropriate strategies to support patients at risk of or experiencing disordered eating during initiation, long-term use, and discontinuation of GLP-1 medications
About the speakers:

Rebecca Berens, MD, is a board-certified family physician and founder of Vida Family Medicine, a direct primary care practice in Houston, Texas. Her clinical work focuses on weight-neutral, evidence-informed management of health conditions that influence metabolic health—including PCOS, insulin resistance, and perimenopause—with particular expertise in caring for patients with current or prior disordered eating.
Dr. Berens brings a nuanced perspective to GLP-1 receptor agonists, drawing from real-world practice where metabolic health, weight stigma, and eating behaviors intersect. She leads the Interdisciplinary Metabolic Health Case Conference (IMHCC), where clinicians collaborate on complex cases at this intersection, and co-hosts The AntiSocial Doctors Podcast. Her work advances thoughtful, inclusive approaches to metabolic care that honor both its benefits and limitations.
