About the Masterclass:

Go beyond the fundamentals in this tube feeding intensive masterclass with dietitians Dr Fiona Arrowsmith and Emily Farrugia. Designed for dietitians looking to build on their existing knowledge, this session focuses on practical tube feeding care across paediatric and adult settings, alongside case-based learning and lived experience insights from people living with a tube and their families. You’ll strengthen your skills in device selection and troubleshooting, explore the evolution of enteral nutrition formulas, and develop confidence navigating NDIS pathways, including report writing and optimising equipment and nutrition support in everyday care.

About the speakers:

Dr Fiona Arrowsmith is an experienced paediatric dietitian with over 26 years of clinical practice. She spent 22 years working at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where she developed extensive expertise in managing the nutrition of children with complex conditions. For the past four years, Fiona has worked in private practice in Sydney through her clinic, Dietitian For Kids, supporting children and families with a wide range of nutritional needs. In 2006, Fiona completed her PhD, focusing on body composition and energy expenditure in children with severe cerebral palsy. She has published several research papers on this topic and presented at conferences both nationally and internationally. Fiona has a particular passion for supporting children who require tube feeding, by helping families navigate feeding challenges, optimise nutritional outcomes, and improve quality of life.

Emily Farrugia is a Senior Dietitian and Allied Health Research Officer at Northern Health and the Northern Centre for Health Education and Research. She has extensive experience in progressive neurological diseases and Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN), across various funding streams. Emily is credentialled in Gastrostomy Tube Management, including balloon gastrostomy replacements and removals, stoma care and troubleshooting, and advanced practice service redesign in community settings. She published a systematic review on gastrostomy-related complications in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2023, with further research under review. Emily is also a Clinical and Content Advisory Group member for the first Australian MND Guideline, and Chair of the Australian MND Dietetics Network.
