About Pod Dietetics

At Pod Dietetics, we provide high quality, person-centred nutrition care, to people of all ages and backgrounds. We work from a weight neutral, trauma-informed and diversity affirming framework, specialising in supporting people with chronic illness, disability, eating disorders or complex clinical presentations such as dysphagia, enteral nutrition, wound healing and malnutrition. We are a Health at Every Size® (HAES) verified provider and a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) registered provider. We deliver 1:1 direct services privately, as well as in collaboration with the NDIS, Medicare, the Lifetime Support Authority (LSA), Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Home Care Packages (HCP) and Private Health funds. We have two clinic locations in St Morris and St Marys, but work across metropolitan Adelaide providing home visits, and support regional and rural clients via telehealth.

Job Title: Paediatric Dietitian

Location: Metropolitan Adelaide including in clinic (St Morris + St Marys), mobile, and work from home

Classification: AHP2

Job Status: Casual, negotiable days and hours with the opportunity to transition to contract or permanent in the future for the right candidate

Salary and Inclusions: $50 – $60 per hour + superannuation + vehicle allowance

Position Overview

This role will suit a dietitian who is passionate about supporting young people and their families or caregivers and who has demonstrated skills in home enteral nutrition and fussy/picky eating including feeding therapy and ARFID. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing a high-quality dietetics service to a wide range of young people from 0 – 25 years, many of whom will have a disability. This will include providing assessment, ongoing care and education in clinic, via home visits and via telehealth (phone or video). It will include working directly with the young person, and with their family, caregiver or support worker team. It will also include working collaboratively with other stakeholders which may include other allied health professionals, general practitioners, child protection services, educators in a childcare/kindy/school setting, medical specialists and dietitians within the tertiary healthcare sector such as the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre or Lyell McEwen Hospital paediatric teams.

This role is an AHP2 position and involves working both independently and in a community setting. Professional supervision will be provided in line with the incumbent’s level of experience and expertise. Additional tasks involved in this role may include contributing to team projects such as updating of education material or reviewing best practice guidelines, undertaking content creation for social media, and networking or building relationships with other health professionals. There is opportunity to build your workload in other areas of nutrition care if desired, aligned with our business development goals and strategy.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provision of evidence-based dietetics care to young people aged 0 – 25 years including assessment and diagnosis; counselling and education; planning, development and implementation of nutrition care plans
  • Provision of above-mentioned care in multiple settings which include clinic, home, community or via telehealth (phone or video)
  • Effective verbal and written communication with a wide variety of stakeholders to provide comprehensive and integrated nutrition care; this may include family, carers, advocates, support coordinators, service planners, speech pathologists, exercise physiologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, general practitioners and medical specialists
  • Completion of accurate and timely written reports to support individuals to access ongoing dietetics care through care support schemes such as the NDIS, the LSS and Medicare
  • Maintaining appropriate records of client interaction to enable consistency of care between other practitioners as required
  • Initiating and building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, particularly those working in the field of paediatrics and disability, to increase the Pod Dietetics referral network and generate workload
  • Undertaking regular reflective practice and professional development, as well as contributing to a culture of feedback and continuous improvement both for staff and clients

Essential Minimum Requirements

Educational/Vocational Qualifications

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of Dietitians Australia and Accredited Practising Dietitian status

  • Clear aptitude for working in a community healthcare setting and with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in managing enteral feeding from birth – 25 years, including assessment, feed prescription and monitoring, advocacy or facilitation of tube insertion, tube weaning
  • Demonstrated experience providing affirming and strengths-based support to children and young people who experience fussy or picky eating, as well as their families or caregivers (this may include support with ARFID diagnosis and treatment, and/or feeding therapy)
  • Demonstrated experience to reflect and evaluate own performance in order to grow professional skills and competence
  • Proven experience in basic computing skills, including email and word processing

Knowledge

  • Proven understanding of and commitment to the principles and practice of Weight Neutral Care, which may include understanding, knowledge and/or experience with the HAES® framework, Non-Diet Approach, Intuitive Eating, Responsive Feeding Therapy

Desirable Characteristics (to distinguish between applicants who meet all essential requirements)

Educational/Vocational Qualifications

  • Additional qualifications in counselling, disability, paediatrics, HAES® or other relevant practice area
  • First Aid and/or Mental Health First Aid
