The nutritional implications and management of COPD is complex, this presentation will cover the significant burden of disease-related malnutrition and the growing body of evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of nutrition support. The presentation will conclude with future directions and the leading role healthcare professionals that are tasked with the management of these patients have in improving their nutritional management.
Dr Peter Collins PhD APD

Dr Collins is a senior lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics at Queensland University of Technology and is a visiting research dietitian at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Peter completed his PhD in the United Kingdom at the Institute of Human Nutrition within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton. His research explored the area of disease-related malnutrition in chronic respiratory disease and the clinical effectiveness of nutritional support. Peter continues to research in this field and is currently involved in the international Practice-based Evidence in Nutrition (PEN) COPD pathway. He believes dietitians have a central role in providing safe, clinical and cost effective care to respiratory patients.
