Recent years have seen a surge in popularity of eating patterns involving intermittent fasting as a way to manage weight and optimise health. These eating patterns call for energy intake to be restricted for a pre-defined period of time and ad libitum at all other times. The two most popular forms of intermittent energy restriction are:
1. The 5:2 diet, characterised by two consecutive or non-consecutive ‘fast’ days
2. Alternate-day fasting, consisting of a ‘fast’ day alternated with a ‘feed’ day
This webinar reviews the health and physiological benefits of intermittent fasting.
About the speaker:
Dr Radhika Seimon moved to the University of Sydney’s Boden Collaboration for Obesity, Nutrition, Exercise & Eating Disorders after completing her PhD in 2012 at the University of Adelaide. Radhika is passionate about finding more effective dietary approaches for the prevention and management of human obesity that minimise appetite, promote favourable changes in body composition and optimise weight loss. Her current research lies in obesity physiology and is focused on the effects of severe dietary energy restriction and intermittent diets on appetite and body composition.
