About the webinar:

What does science say about intermittent fasting? Is it an effective weight management tool? Does it have applications in other health conditions? And how does it impact those who suffer from disordered eating? Join us and NBC’s Today Show nutrition and health expert Joy Bauer, RDN, to find out! In this accredited webinar, Joy speaks to researcher Dr Sofia Cienfuegos, RDN, and Cleveland Clinic’s Julia Zumpano, RDN, about the pros and cons of intermittent fasting within dietetic practice. Sofia and Julia will also share their thoughts on the best way to work with patients looking to adopt this popular way of eating.

About the speakers:

Julia Zumpano is a registered dietitian with Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation and the Women’s Cardiovascular Center at Cleveland Clinic. Her part-time position involves mainly patient counseling for a cardio-protective diet, with focus on cholesterol reduction, controlling hypertension and diabetes, and weight management. Her approach is unique in the way that she focuses on strategies and behavior modification individualized to each patient’s lifestyle, needs, and readiness to change.  Her position also entails involvement in nutrition program development, research projects and studies, patient and employee education, and community outreach.

Sofia Cienfuegos is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).  She graduated as an RD in 2013 in Chile, and later she received her Ph.D. in nutrition and metabolism at UIC.

Her area of research is the effect of time-restricted eating on obesity and cardiometabolic diseases. She is currently running the first year-long trial in time-restricted feeding versus caloric restriction.
