Extra! Extra! Do you read all about it? Food and nutrition, that is? Well you’re going to love my blog The Scoop on Nutrition.
Why did you start blogging?
One of my motivations for setting up the blog over four years ago was realising that Dr Google and the digital age posed threats and opportunities for our profession. I wanted to hep raise the profile of dietitians in the digital space, encourage more of us to jump on board and create a platform that showcases our diverse expertise.
What does the blog cover?
Our descriptor for the site is “Hot news bites with a healthy serve of what’s in flavour”. We scoop up the latest nutrition news from around the globe and also tackle those hot questions that people want answered. We can also slip in important watch outs and messages to our consumer audience, like our recent post on orthorexia that was liked over 400 times on Facebook.
All of our guest posts are written by Australian dietitians, or students studying dietetics, with a few international friends. I help coach the writers and oversee all articles as site editor and would love to hear from more dietitian contributors. We also have a mentoring program called Scoop Subs and recently launched an ebook The Scoop On Blogging Secrets – for health and lifestyle bloggers. We are super keen to help dietitians and promote more of our blogs!
We also talk about our amazing local produce, farmers, chefs and food festivals and encourage more people to understand and respect food provenance. Plus include recipes and motivation to help people get back in the kitchen. So you’ll find loads of deliciousness and better-for-you treat recipes on Scoop Nutrition too, like my Baked ANZAC doughnuts as part of the monthly Recipe ReDux challenge.
