I am an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist living in Canberra. I’m passionate about communicating my love of healthy food with others and am active on various social media platforms; including Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn. I have recently made the leap into blogging and share my food journey on my nutrition blog, www.mynutritiousjourney.com.
As with most dietitians, I have a love affair with food! Cooking it, experimenting with it, shopping for it, sharing it with family and friends, and writing about it. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new eateries and perusing the cooking section of boutique book stores. I am a long term believer of everything in moderation (well, almost everything!).
Tell me a little bit about your job and/or describe a typical day for you?
I work at Nutrition Australia ACT and have a part-time private practice, so no two days are ever the same! A work day may involve a cooking demonstration or nutrition seminar at a workplace; providing nutrition advice to school canteens; developing and piloting nutrition curriculum for teachers; delivering a cooking workshop or responding to media requests. It is a stimulating and diverse work environment and I love it!
What do you most enjoy about your job?
My favourite part is educating people about nutrition in a simple, relatable and realistic way and inspiring them to make positive changes to their health.
I am also an active member of Nutrition Australia ACT’s Committee of Management and the ACT Dietitians Association of Australia Executive Branch and enjoy learning about governance procedures of non-government organisations.
Tell me a little bit about your career in dietetics thus far and/or why did you choose dietetics as a career?
A career highlight would have to be co-authoring two abstracts and poster presentations for the 2012 International Congress of Dietetics, detailing Nutrition Australia ACT’s involvement in delivering community nutrition programs, which supported the Go for 2&5® campaign.
A personal highlight was receiving the Dietitians Association of Australia ACT Executive Student Award.
Dietetics seemed a natural fit for me because I’ve always been a little bit obsessed with food!
What is one interesting fact about you?
I’m a surprisingly fussy eater, despite encouraging my clients to eat more fish, it is one thing I struggle with! But I’m getting better!
