Coeliac Disease is an autoimmune disease caused by gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats. The ingestion of gluten results in an inappropriate immune reaction that causes villous atrophy, inflammation and flattening of the villi in the small bowel. The only known treatment for coeliac disease is a lifelong gluten free diet. A number of serious health conditions can result if coeliac disease is not diagnosed and treated.


The Coeliac Society of Australia converted their popular Ingredient List booklet into an iPhone application. The ingredient list assists coeliac disease sufferers correctly identify if foods are gluten free and safe for inclusion in a gluten free diet. So, it will assist coeliac disease suffers become ingredient aware and increase their choice of suitable food products! The ingredient list includes over 800 ingredients and 300 additives used in Australian and New Zealand foods. The app does not recommend brands of products, as products and their ingredients change constantly. The app also includes an overview of coeliac disease, reading food labels, gluten and gluten free foods, and allergen statements.
