The team at Darebin Weight Loss Surgery (DWLS) are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate Accredited Practicing Dietitian who wants to work in the ever-expanding and challenging area of obesity management, metabolic and bariatric surgery.
About DWLS
DWLS, located in Bulleen, Melbourne, is a cohesive team of experienced health professionals providing comprehensive multidisciplinary care to people living with obesity seeking long term treatment and management. Our team consists of three Upper Gastrointestinal/Upper GI and metabolic/bariatric surgeons, a Bariatric Specialist GP, an Endocrinologist, two Psychologists and two Accredited Practicing Dietitians. Our team participate regularly in national and international conferences, and a number of our team members are key opinion leaders in Australia. We conduct regular in-house education updates and clinical immersion opportunities are available for all staff.
About the role
- Casual position paid at hourly rate under Health Professionals & Support Services Award rates (negotiated according to level of experience).
- Starting with 6-8hrs per week across 1-2 days (must be available Fridays, other days to be negotiated) with potential to increase hours as desired and according to demand.
- One to one, face-to-face client consultations including assessment, education and counselling, follow-up/monitoring and long term support. Telehealth may also be conducted from within our clinic rooms or in some instances from home.
- Work in consultation with our in-house multidisciplinary team.

Essential Criteria
- Bachelors or higher qualification in Nutrition & Dietetics from University course of study recognised by Dietitians Australia (must be eligible for DA membership).
- Current Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) status.
- 5 years clinical experience as an APD with experience in chronic disease management and gastrointestinal health.
- 2-3years experience at Grade 2 level in weight management and metabolic/bariatric surgery in outpatient setting (hospital and/or community).
- Demonstrated attendance at relevant professional development activities undertaken in the last 3years.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development relevant to this role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence in clear communication with the public and health professionals.
- Counselling and education skills specifically in the area of weight management and behavior change.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by people with obesity and the issues associated with weight bias/stigma.
- Ability to work independently without supervision (following basic training to be provided).
- Excellent time management skills.
- Up to date police record check and Covid vaccination status.
- Current professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in practicing Dietetics in private practice setting.
- Specific training/formal education in bariatric surgery nutrition management.
- Experience and/or formal training in management of eating disorders including binge eating disorder and restrictive/purge subtypes.
- Interest and skills in developing electronic resources and support services for patients.
